Panel #3: Biographies
Dr. James S. MacKay, associate professor of music theory and composition at Loyola University New Orleans, has had articles published in Haydn-Studien, HAYDN: Online Journal of the Haydn Society of North America, Haydn and His Contemporaries, Arietta, Canadian University Music Review, Indiana Theory Review, Theoria, Journal of the American Viola Society, and Ad Parnassum. His research interests focus on formal and performance practice issues in Haydn and Beethoven’s keyboard music, formal and contrapuntal issues in William Byrd’s vocal music, and the use of treatise evidence to illuminate 16th and 18th century compositional practice.
Zoe Weiss is a PhD candidate at Cornell University where she is writing a dissertation on the Elizabethan In Nomine. Zoe is a also a practicing musician who performs widely on the viola da gamba and is a founding member of LeStrange Viols and Science Ficta. She currently serves on the board of the Viola da Gamba Society of America and is an editor for the Journal of the same organization. Her recordings with LeStrange Viols and ACRONYM can be heard on the New Focus label.
